Set off from the centre of Acqui Terme and head for Piazza della Bollente, the location of the famous 1879 pavilion designed in the eclectic style to emphasise the importance of the hot springs. After the inevitable stop, head for Corso Bagni and take the Regione Lacia road, passing the sulphurous fountain and its unmistakable smell of rotten eggs. Continue for 4.5 km then leave the surfaced road for an unsurfaced stretch on the left. The tarmac returns after a few hundred metres. By continuing to climb, you will reach provincial road SP 210 near Cavatore. Take SP 210 to the Ciglione–Caldasio junction and head towards Galletto, turning right after 1,900 metres onto a dirt road. Following the GPS route, head down through the woods to Grognardo, then take Via Poggio to Località Marrona. From here, follow the unpaved route to Ovrano . From Ovrano, take the tarmac up on the right to Ovrano Castle and follow along this on the left to get to the broom (ginestre) descent. After the climb to Montemarino comes the final climb to Montestregone, Lussito, where you can see the antennae standing out on the mount. At this point, make the final – and quite demanding – descent known as Pineta. This will take you to Bagni di Acqui Terme then back to where the route started from.
