This route begins from the large car park in Piazza di Don Piero Dolermo, Acqui Terme. You will head out from the area north of the Bormida river among small hill villages and the Brachetto vineyards. This renowned sparkling wine is pinkish in colour, sweet, gentle and quite delicate. It pairs nicely with sweets and pastries.
After leaving the centre, the route starts from Strada Moirano in the direction of Castel Rocchero. After the Cascina Baretta farmhouse, head for Fontanile, where you can admire murals by painter Luigi Amelio. The village street art also includes cycling-themed murals. About a kilometre outside the village is a giant Big Bench viewpoint. Take a break here then continue among the Brachetto vineyards to Mombaruzzo, where the happy union of Brachetto wine and the delicious amaretti biscuits are celebrated and indeed are included in the Slow Food Ark of Taste. Get back on your bike to climb to the little village of Quaranti, then reach Alice Bel Colle in Regione Rossa, where there is a 360° panoramic viewpoint and a giant Big Bench that was recently inaugurated. The return stretch to Acqui Terme runs alongside the railway line and appears level but in fact slopes gently and conveniently down.
